GST Returns

GST compliance is one of the most common pain points for NZ business owners. Filing errors, missed deadlines and incorrect calculations can trigger IRD audits or penalties. When is the tax return deadline in NZ?

Income tax returns are generally due by 7 July unless an extension of time applies. Clients linked to a tax agent may qualify for an extension to file up to 31 March of the following year.

Generally, business expenses incurred in earning your taxable income may be deductible to the extent they relate to your business, subject to the relevant tax rules. This can include vehicle expenses, home office costs, professional fees, subscriptions, equipment and more. We’ll help identify the deductions you’re legitimately entitled to claim.

IRD may charge late-filing penalties for overdue GST returns, and unpaid GST may also attract late-payment penalties and use-of-money interest. We monitor filing deadlines to help reduce the risk of missed returns.
